Key point. An inspection record should reflect work actually performed; a study exercise cannot perform that work.
You'll learn to
- Organize daily work into three stages.
- Recognize the purpose of pre-trip and post-trip forms.
- Distinguish an inspection from its record.
Before: know the vehicle and assignment
The RMV pre-trip form lists equipment and vehicle components to check and provides space to record the inspection. Use the full current form with instruction appropriate to the vehicle. In this module, your task is to understand the purpose of preparation. Reading a list does not establish that you can inspect each item correctly or that the vehicle is suitable for a trip.
During: keep the assignment clear
For this study map, group the work during a trip around the route, passenger needs, communication, and the approved operating procedures. Ask your employer where the instructions live and who handles a change. Later lessons explore those subjects. This overview does not provide a vehicle-specific operating or emergency procedure.
After: finish deliberately
The RMV post-trip form identifies checks in, around, and underneath every seat. It also addresses other inspection items. Treat the form as a complete reference to learn with your employer or instructor, not as a single phrase to memorize. A final stop and a completed post-trip routine are different events.
Records follow the work
Imagine two boxes: the action and the record. The record describes the inspection you actually performed. A correct quiz answer, a saved checklist, or someone else's signature cannot do that inspection for you. If you are unsure how to perform a check or respond to a concern, obtain the appropriate instruction and follow the applicable process before relying on a completed record.
- Learn the routine in the actual vehicle.
- Use the full current inspection reference.
- Record work accurately after performing it.
Scenario
The form is already filled in
Sam finds a pre-filled inspection form at the beginning of the day. Sam has not performed the corresponding checks on the vehicle.
What assumption should Sam avoid?
Show the answer
Avoid assuming that the pre-filled form proves Sam performed the inspection. Learn and carry out the required routine, address concerns through the applicable process, and keep an accurate record of the actual work.
