Who buys shuttle service

Public colleges and universities contract campus and commuter shuttles. Transit authorities, including the MBTA, buy shuttle bus service, for example to cover service changes. Towns buy commuter, parking and event shuttles, and state agencies and courts buy transportation for specific programs. Each posts on its own portal or procurement page, so the same week can bring a college shuttle on one site and a transit shuttle on another.

Vehicles and contract shapes

Shuttle work ranges from a single van on a fixed loop to fleets of buses or motorcoaches on short notice. Some contracts are multi-year fixed routes; others are on-call agreements priced per hour or per trip. The vehicle, insurance and staffing requirements are set in each solicitation, so read the official documents before pricing.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as shuttle work on this page?

Campus, commuter, parking, employee and event shuttles, shuttle bus service for transit authorities, and charter or livery transportation that isn't school athletics or field trips. Vehicle rentals, vehicle purchases and consulting studies are left out.

Do I need a 7D certificate for shuttle contracts?

Not as a rule: the 7D certificate covers transporting school pupils. Shuttle and charter contracts set their own driver, vehicle and insurance requirements, which each solicitation spells out. If a shuttle carries students, check whether the buyer requires 7D-certified drivers and vehicles.

Where do I submit a bid or get the documents?

Always through the official posting, not through RouteReady. Every listing links back to COMMBUYS, BidNet Direct, a transit authority, a college or the buyer's own procurement page.
