Map the requirements for launching a Massachusetts 7D business

Build a map of what must be resolved.

Key point. Completing one setup task does not establish that the entire service is ready.

You'll learn to

  • Organize setup and service questions.
  • Recognize that requirements depend on the business and assignment.
  • Define useful evidence for a planning milestone.

Group the questions

Use three planning groups: business setup, transportation preparation, and customer requirements. Business setup includes structure, applicable filings, tax registration, and local requirements. Transportation preparation includes the people, vehicle, instruction, and coverage for the intended service. Customer requirements come from the actual service specifications and agreement. The groups are a RouteReady organizing tool, not an exhaustive compliance checklist.

Investigate what applies

The Massachusetts startup guide explains that structure affects the steps needed to start a business and directs readers to filing, tax, and local licensing resources. The RMV's application page covers a driver's certification process. Read each source for its own subject. A business registration and a driver's certificate address different questions; neither document alone establishes that every requirement for a particular service is met.

Name who can resolve each gap

For every unresolved item, write the relevant authority, advisor, or responsible party. Business-structure questions may need qualified legal or tax advice. Certification questions go to the current RMV process. Vehicle and assignment preparation needs the appropriate instruction and requirements. Contract questions need the actual purchaser's documents. A familiar rule from another business may not apply to yours.

Use evidence beside each milestone

Instead of “insurance sorted,” write the unresolved coverage question and the confirmation you need for the intended service. Instead of “drivers ready,” list the certification and assignment-preparation questions to resolve. Record non-sensitive planning reminders in your launch plan, and keep official documents in the appropriate business process. Academy checkmarks track your planning activity.

Scenario

One completed filing

Riley has completed a business filing. Riley has not resolved vehicle preparation, driver certification, coverage, or the requirements of a potential customer.

What does the completed filing establish?

Show the answer

It establishes completion of that filing, within its scope. It does not establish that the proposed transport service is ready. Keep the remaining service and customer requirements visible and resolve them through the relevant sources and processes.

Check your understanding
